I'm not just focusing on this particular issue. And this inaccessible nut I'm talking about could've been placed a few inches forward without any negative consequences. Having to remove portions of the interior in order to remove roof trim in order to replace a vinyl top sort of boggles the mind. Anything from vandalism to serious storm damage could've required that a vinyl top be replaced, and any warranty issues involving the top would mean that much more labor would be required to perform the job than on a similar era Impala, Grand Prix or Coronet. Surely, replacing a vinyl top on these cars when they were still relatively new couldn't have been an unforeseen or unlikely circumstance. Unless I'm missing something significant about this repair, I seriously have to question the engineering wisdom at Ford during this era. Of course, that wouldn't apply to the towne coupe I guess (which is the the reason I figured '64 and '65 would be the same rather than '65 and '66.) According to Pat Wilson's, the '65 and the '66 are the same. It's interesting that the '64 has a different trim piece than the '65. The flexible shaft is at least some hope. Or if I've already removed everything I need to so far, and just need to slide the trim piece off. I don't know for sure that this is in fact a fastener for the trim piece. It's a machine stud and nut.and so far it seems to be located in an utterly inaccessible place above the rear wheel well and kind of close to the trunk hinge. It's located rearward of the two I've removed so far. The only other stud and nut I see (and it's the same on both sides of the roof) is different than the two I've removed so far. The trim piece is still not coming off, however, so I assume there is another fastener holding it on. I'll include a pic, which is not of my car, BTW.) There are two pressed metal nuts on the two forward most studs of that trim piece - accessible through the interior with the interior panels and rear quarter window assemblies removed, and they were not too hard to access and remove. However, I'm kind of flabbergasted on how to remove the C pillar trim bar (or whatever it's 's below the landau bar.the thick piece of chrome at the bottom of the vinyl top. I also removed one of the Landau bars.a job that's more or less doable while leaving my original headliner (in quite good condition) mostly intact. I have already removed some of the trim for the interior refurbishment. Some trim removal info I can't find in the shop manual or the search functiion, so I'll ask you. I've decided to start on my vinyl top replacement on my '65.
